Photo frames are a great way to display and decorate those precious moments or people from your life immortalized in a photography. You can also use them to display some of your children’s art, your diploma or certificate. Photo frames allow you to add a little personal touch to your surroundings, whether it is your home or your office and you can place them either on a coffee table, on your desk, on a shelf, or hang them on the wall. Besides that, photo frames, unlike art frames, usually have a layer of glass or acrylic that protects the photo from unwanted scratches, spills, dust, or anything in general that might cause damage.

There is a wide range of different photo frame designs out there and they come in various shapes, sizes, and materials. Choosing the shape and size depends on what kind of photo you want to frame which is why I want to talk more about the materials. The three most common types of frames in terms of materials are metallic photo frames, wooden frames, and plastic. The materials determine both the quality and the cost of the frame, but of course, you usually get what you pay for. I will go over each material separately and hope it will help you make your choice easier.

  • Metallic photo frames are one of the most popular modern photo frames and my personal favorite. They are far more superior to other types of photo frames regarding durability and versatility. They go well with just about anything and you can choose from a large variety of designs, from intricate ornate detailing, to simple and minimalist. They come in any type of metal material or metal finish such as chrome, gold, silver, brass, and so on. In case you have a problem matching a particular photo with the right frame, metal is always the safest choice regarding looks.
  • Wood photo frames are more of an old-fashioned option and they can be made from just about any type of solid wood available; plus, they can have a variety of finishes, colours, and engravings. The good thing about wood frames is that they can be easily customized to suit your personal taste. They can also enhance different types of photography without taking over the glory of the photo.
  • Plastic photo frames are the best option if you are on a budget, however, besides being cheap, they can often look cheap too. One of their advantages is that being made of plastic or acrylic, they are very light-weight which makes them an ideal choice if you want to hang them in areas that cannot withstand too much weight.
