Just because you aren’t up for any outdoor adventure like camping, hiking, off-roading, hunting, or something more extreme doesn’t mean you won’t make use of an everyday carry kit even if you’re at home, at a public place, on your way to work or at work. After all, you never know when some emergency could appear, and it’s always better to be prepared for whatever comes your way than to resort to panic.

Sometimes, in situations like during a power outage, an injury, or when you have to do a quick repair time is of the essence, and your preparedness and self-reliance could make a huge difference. Having a reliable EDC tool kit at your disposal allows you to act upon the situation at hand without wasting any precious second until help arrives.

What Should Be in My EDC?

source: everydaycarry.com

Here are a few ideas.

Multi-Tool

If there’s one item that’s associated with utility and function, it’s got to be a multi-tool. Nowadays, the market is full of this kind of tools, differing in the pieces they’re equipped with, but what’s essential for all of them is the compactness. They’re made to handle a variety of tasks with one simple design, giving you the chance to tackle anything from cutting things and screwing bolts to opening bottles.

Folding Knife

In addition to the multi-tool, it’s still advisable to have that one separate knife designed for precision. Besides everyday tasks like opening packages, it’s a tool that can come in handy with opening cans and prepping food in emergencies. A folding EDC design is especially useful as it doesn’t take up much space.

Flashlight

Sure, we live in a tech world and electricity is a constant in our lives, but who’s to say there won’t be a time when you’d need that extra illumination source? Perhaps you’d find yourself left stranded on the road with the sun going down, and your phone battery can only hold up so long as a few minutes; flashlights can be a true lifesaver in instances like these when your vehicle needs a repair. An LED rechargeable light with solid output becomes must-have. Keychain compact options are especially great if you want to save up on space and cut down on battery waste.

Lighter

You don’t have to be a smoker to find a lighter useful, especially in power outages. At times like these, you’d find it to be just the tool you require to start a fire to warm up, or do the cooking. A muffin tin and a few small candles can be enough to heat up some water, for example. To be on the safe side, though, always make sure the candles are away from any item that can catch fire, and never leave them out of sight.

Notebook and Pen

In this digitalised time we live in, you might find this combo to be obsolete but it couldn’t be further from the truth. You could rely on them to jot down important information or ideas, coming up with a crucial plan for safety or strategy that would save the day. To be prepared in any kind of environment, invest in all-weather products to have the peace of mind they’d be alright even in case of rain. And don’t forget to also pack the pen refill.

First Aid Kit

What happens when there’s no pharmacy or medical facility in sight? You make use of your first aid kit consisting of basics like bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers, gauze, and meds. It may seem insignificant but it can prove its usefulness in treating minor injuries like cuts to prevent bigger issues.

Wallet

It’s no fun having to look for your money or cards all over the backpack. To keep things organised, a slim wallet is something to count on; more so if you acquire a multi-use design that also incorporates tools like bottle openers, metric wrenches, and rulers. Now that’s an every day carry financial tool!

Phone

Okay, this one is a no-brainer, but while we’re at the most indispensable tool in this day and age, it’s important to mention you should always be prepared with an emergency charger because you never know when that time you forgot to charge the phone could prove to be a decisive one. And, speaking of phones, having a durable and strong case is another must in case there’s some accident.

When packing all this, be sure to have a reliable, comfortable, and functional backpack that’s weatherproof, and has enough pockets and compartments to store each of the aforementioned items neatly. Organisation is key when reaching for a specific tool, and so is upgrading the setup periodically to get something more up-to-date or in a better condition.

How to Select the EDC Items?

source: istock.com

Here are a few extra ideas that can further simplify the selection for you:

Design

While we’re at design, it’s important to pick out a tool that’s not only sturdy and durable to withstand the use, but also one that’s made for a range of tasks so you get more out of a single item. This doubles in efficiency.

Functionality

A tool should be useful to provide you with lots of functionality for the specific tasks you buy it for. Consider the functions you need it for, and look for the most reliable product, checking reviews and brand reputation.

Ease of Use

Whether it’s everyday situations or emergencies, you need to have a reliable tool that’s simple to operate and offers a great deal on practicality.

Lifestyle

Your own lifestyle, profession, and preferences can be crucial factors in the selection of the items. What one finds to be essential doesn’t necessarily make it essential for everyone, so always make sure you choose tools that you find to be useful and must-have.

A rifle sling is an essential piece of equipment that fits your rifle perfectly and improves comfort, stability, and accuracy whether you’re shooting, crawling, sprinting, or doing anything else the situation demands. However, finding the perfect sling for you can be challenging, given the variety of designs and types available. Several sling types of different materials for different performance levels have other benefits; examining each can help you choose the best option.

Is a Rifle Sling Worth It?

source: facebook.com/Moroka.30

A sling is more than just a comfort item or a comfort item – it’s a safety device. Having one while using a rifle is essential, just as a holster is when shooting a handgun. You must have this weapon system, as it enables you always to be aware of the location and state of this weapon. It allows you to carry out tasks, move, and control them without putting down the gun.

The Different Types of Rifle Slings

When searching for a sturdy and ergonomic rifle sling, you’ll notice several types on the market. Every type has unique advantages that can significantly improve your shooting performance. Finding the ideal sling that complements your shooting preferences and style is critical.

The single-point sling fastens to a single point on the weapon. This type of sling is perfect for dynamic shooting circumstances, such as close-quarters fighting, when you may suddenly switch to your sidearm because it allows for quick changes and manoeuvrability. Smaller guns like AR pistols, short-barrel rifles, and personal defence weapons are more suited for this option.

The two-point sling is an additional style that fastens to two places on the firearm. It offers improved stability and support, especially when shooting from a prone position or engaging targets at a distance. That’s ideal for snipers and shooters hiding in plain sight who can’t afford to miss their target. The two-point slings work well for rifles like the AR or AK platforms.

Selecting the ideal sling attachment point that complements your shooting style is essential, regardless of whether you want a single attachment point or a more adaptable two-point design.

A sling that interferes with your shooting ability is the last thing you want because it might mean the difference between life and death, and if you miss your shot, you might be in more need of a first aid kit than anything else. Selecting the ideal sling attachment point that complements your shooting style is essential, regardless of whether you want a single attachment point or a more adaptable two-point design. Thus, it can be helpful to spend some time investigating the many kinds of rifle slings so you can select the one that will improve your shooting.

The Importance of Different Sling Materials

The material of the sling is crucial to its overall performance. You want something comfortable and practical, like your boots or helmet. The suitable material ensures your sling won’t slow you down or make unnecessary noise, especially in a high-pressure situation.

Your option will affect the accessories and buckles it can accommodate and its functionality. Nylon webbing and similar materials offer varying comfort, durability, and control levels. Choosing the right one for your shooting needs is essential for a more stable and comfortable experience, whether shooting long-range or in a tactical environment.

Pros and Cons of Sling Materials

Each sling material has unique advantages and disadvantages. For example, nylon is lightweight and durable, making it popular with many shooters and hunters. However, it may need to provide more stability in certain situations. Webbing, on the other hand, offers better support but can be bulkier and heavier.

Buckles also matter; some materials offer quick adjustment features, while others prioritise security. Flexibility, durability, and comfort are critical factors in determining which sling material suits you. It’s essential to consider how each material interacts with your gear to ensure it doesn’t interfere with your performance.

Adjusting Your Rifle Sling

source: moroka30.com.au

Properly adjusting your tactical sling is as essential as picking the suitable material. Whether using a single-point or two-point sling, understanding how to change it can enhance comfort and shooting accuracy.

For a single-point sling, attach it to the support side of your firearm and adjust the length so it fits snugly. This setup allows for fast transitions between shooting positions without restricting movement. A well-adjusted single-point sling provides flexibility for close-quarters situations, letting you switch weapons easily.

Attach one point near the muzzle for a two-point sling and adjust the length so the rifle stays close to your body. This position offers increased stability, especially during long-range shooting or when moving through rugged terrain. A well-adjusted two-point sling keeps the firearm secure and controlled, improving accuracy.

Fine-Tuning for Comfort and Performance

The proper adjustments make a big difference in performance. For a single-point sling, ensure it’s tight enough for stability but loose enough to allow free movement. Two-point slings need precise adjustments to balance the firearm and provide better control for long-distance shots.

Selecting the suitable material and mastering the adjustments can significantly improve your shooting experience. Comfort, ease of use, and performance depend on these critical factors, making your rifle sling an essential part of your gear.

If you have just bought a new caravan or decided to upgrade your existing one, you have probably thought of getting an awning with a screen. These additions can turn your outdoor adventures into more pleasant experiences, providing privacy, protecting you from the sun, and extending your space. This inexpensive and long-lasting solution will increase your comfort levels in different conditions.

More Privacy, Shade, and Space

source: shadygear.com.au

When you are in a caravan park with dozens of people on every side, privacy can be an issue. The caravan privacy screens will give you some personal space—a small, secluded area for you and your family to relax and enjoy even in the more crowded locations while still being able to savour the outdoors.

Another reason to purchase one of the caravan shade screens is exactly what the name suggests: a pool of shade. The hot Australian sun can be fierce at times, and with the metal of the caravan heating up, a space where you can hide from the heat is more than welcome.

The screen can provide sun protection by the side of the caravan, as it is attached to the awning. It is also useful for rainy days, protecting your belongings, chairs, and table outside by restricting rain access and providing some screening from gusts of wind.

Floor space is limited, however large the caravan is, and the awning is the simplest way to increase it. A full awning will normally double the living area since it is fitted along the whole length of the caravan and provides storage space outside the vehicle.

Types of Awnings

The main types of awnings generally available for caravans, motorhomes, and campervans are full awnings, porch or universal awnings, and canopy or cassette awnings. Which one is best for you depends on whether you intend on staying at the campsite all season or you want something that can be easily set up and taken down for your next stop on the tour.

Full Awning

source: attwoolls.co.uk

A full or traditional awning will cover one whole side of your caravan, providing lots of extra living space, generally greater than a porch. They are made of heavier-weight fabric and might take longer to put up, and the size needs to fit your particular model of caravan. However, if you are more people and want to have dinner outside, there is plenty of room for more chairs and a table.

Porch or Universal Awning

A large porch awning connects along the top horizontal part of the rail and covers most of one side of a caravan, while a small porch awning won’t cover much more than the doorway, but is useful for storing muddy shoes, bikes, or surfing boards after a day at the beach. It is quicker and easier to pitch if you are only staying for a couple of nights, you can get it up and peg it down in less than 15 minutes.

Canopy or Roller Awning

This shelter extends from the caravan roof and can be fitted either temporarily or permanently to the side of your caravan. The latter ones work like roller blinds and have poles that fold down to form legs for stability. Some of the higher-end ones come with walls to create a more enclosed space.

Getting the Right Measurements

source: streetwizeaccessories.com

Depending on the type of awning you decide on, you will need to take the right measurements. For a full awning, you will have to consider two measurements, the depth, the distance from your caravan to the outer wall of the awning, and the caravan’s A measurement, usually given in the instruction manual.

When it comes to the porch type, the easiest way to measure caravan shade screens is to measure the height of the caravan from the ground to the awning rail and the length of the rail. Make note of the position of the caravan’s windows and doors, as you might not be able to fully open them.

When measuring for RV privacy screens, make sure you have the size between the centre of the legs and not the awning fabric. It should be a foot shorter than the awning size so it can fit, and remember, smaller screens can always be fitted to larger awnings; they just won’t span the entire length.

Setting It Up

Pitching up motorhome awnings the first time might seem like a complicated task, but you will find that following the manufacturer’s instructions can help a great deal. Whether they are full awnings or porches, they attach to the caravan side using a cord that runs into the awning channel. Once you feed the cord in, starting from the front, you need to push it along the channel until it lies flat. Then you construct the frame, and when it’s taut, you peg it down like a tent.

The caravan screen has a rope sewn into the edge that slides into a track on your awning with eyelets or d-rings on the bottom edge, which will be pegged down, so installing it is quite simple.

Fabrics Maintenance

source: outdoorworlddirect.co.uk

There are a variety of materials used to make awnings, but lightweight polyester has several advantages. It is easy to handle, construct, and pack, and it will dry quickly after rain. Heavier and higher-quality polyester will last longer and can withstand harsher conditions. The acrylic fabric is designed to be more resistant to ultraviolet light due to the fibre-dyed material. With proper maintenance, they will give many years of holiday use. Brush off the debris regularly, clean the fabric from mould or mildew, and make sure it’s dry before you store it away.

Conclusion

The caravan awning privacy screens can enhance your holidays in many ways. If you choose a well-made one that is suited for all seasons, caravanning will be a much more enjoyable experience. They are compact, lightweight, and easy to set up, providing a personal barrier without completely blocking the outdoors. Stay in the shade and chill.

Decided to ditch city life for a bit, substituting it with lots of sunshine and fresh air by going on hikes? Good for you! It’s one of those activities that bring about plenty of well-being and health benefits, so it’s not surprising more and more people decide to make it part of their lifestyle.

One mistake most of these people make, however, is not getting the suitable equipment for the hikes, primarily the backpack. You may end up thinking you can bring along the primary backpack you use on your day-to-day errands, and you would be wrong because it wasn’t created for this purpose so it lacks crucial properties and features.

At first glance, it might seem like an unnecessary expense, yet if you fail to take it seriously you risk impacting your hikes and adventures. The wrong backpack might slow you down or even make you give up the activity altogether, so before you hit those amazing trails, get to do some shopping. If you find yourself asking “How do I choose a good hiking backpack?” the ideas, or rather questions, in this blog post will help guide you through.

How Long Is Your Hike Going to Be?

Source: outdoorgearlab.com

This is one of the most essential things to consider because there are different designs of backpacks available for the different duration periods of the hikes. There are lightweight and more compact models for one-day hikes that go up to 10 to 25 litres in capacity, and then there are the roomier 20 to 35-litre models for longer hikes.

These are made to fit basics on multiday hikes such as water supply, clothing, camping and cooking items. If you intend to stay on the go longer than three days, it’s advisable to go even bigger than 35 litres regardless of whether you’re providing your own shelter or staying in rented accommodation. There are certain things that are unpredictable, like getting sick or going through bad weather, so it’s better to be prepared for whatever comes your way.

When And Where Is It Going to Be?

Every season isn’t the same, much like every region, so it’s important to also keep in mind the time of year you intend to set out on this adventure, as well as the exact location. This would give you an idea of how much storage space you require of the sturdy backpacks for the needed clothes, food and water, and toiletries supplies.

If you’re going by the coast, on an island, or to the mountain, chances are you’re going to encounter quick weather changes, which calls for being prepared for a change of clothes. This means you’re best off with warm and lightweight items to change as you go. Moreover, being certain about the climate is also good for pointing out which type of material for the backpack would best suit your requirements.

How Big Do You Want It to Be?

Source: outgearlab.com

Size and fit are two components that also depend on personal preference and comfort. Perhaps you don’t mind carrying a backpack with more capacity than you require for your trip of several hours, or vice versa – maybe you’re looking for something more compact yet still spacious enough for your trip of several days.

There are two types of backpacks you can pick from in these cases: technical and ultralight. The first are more sport-specific, so they come with certain features that you might find useful. These include side pockets, specific pockets for mobile phones and sunglasses, attachments for shoes, helmets, rock climbing ropes and quickdraws, and sleeping bags, as well as top-load and panel access.

Technical packs for hiking are available in a variety of sizes, in addition to capacities, so it would be of help if you measure up your own torso’s length. Choosing a backpack with adjustability in the hip belt and shoulder straps can be of help further in getting a more customised fit. As for the ultralight alternative, it’s all about optimal capacity at minimal discomfort.

Don’t be fooled into thinking these are only smaller-sized because there are even some XXL hiking packs available as ultralight. It’s all about how minimalist and lightweight they are, as opposed to the technical. As such, they’re perfect for covering more ground more quickly.

How Much Are You Willing to Spend?

Setting a budget from the start can save you from a lot of trouble during shopping. In addition to pointing out how expensive you can go, it’s an indicator of whether or not you must have certain features, or if you can buy something cheaper at the expense of said features. It can also show you if you can afford a top-notch brand’s product or if it’s best left for future trips.

Is it an absolute must to acquire a backpack with numerous attachments, adjustable straps, or waterproof and weatherproof properties or can you buy a cheaper one and the additional rain cover? Ask yourself the right questions, set an amount you’re willing to spend and see from there.

If you regularly spend time off the grid, then you understand how important it is to have a reliable source of energy available. And although you may have accepted solar as the only real alternative for portable power, there’s an excellent possibility that you’ve also discovered that not all portable solutions are ideal.

Folding and suitcase-style portable solar systems are lightweight, they’re great for getting optimal coverage with quick sets, and they’re inexpensive. For anyone who’s more than an occasional user though, the downside to these systems is that in spite of their compact size, they still take up valuable storage space, and they don’t produce very much power and lack scalability.

If you typically find yourself suffering from a serious power deficit whenever you’re off the grid, then maybe a more conventional fixed-roof solution is what you need. And now, thanks to Sunman Energy, solid-framed glass-framed solar panels don’t have to be your only fixed-roof alternative anymore.

Portable Solar Panels Get Flexible

Source: campertrailers.org

With people spending more time off the grid now than ever, the last few years have seen major advances in the kinds of portable technologies that’ll allow them to do that. Sunman Energy, however, has taken a decisive lead in the field of portable solutions by developing a revolutionary panel specifically for off-gridders who want to buy 300 watt solar panel modules that are lightweight and flexible, but still sturdy enough for fixed-roof applications. Sunman’s patented eArc cell technology combines monocrystalline solar cells with a composite polymer that’s as durable as conventional glass, but effectively wears like a flexible skin.

The result is a compact, 60-cell solar panel that, with up to 248° of flex, is free from almost every structural limitation that glass-framed panels are restricted by. And while their characteristics may not seem particularly impressive at first, they’re precisely the product that every dedicated caravanner has been quietly waiting for.

The Advantage of eArc Solar Panels

Source: purposeof.com.au

Unlike traditional roof-mounted RV panels, the absence of a glass casing or a rigid frame on an eArc module gives it significant advantages over every other traditional 300 watt solar panels for sale, including:

Considerable weight savings. Weighing only 5.5kg, an eArc is 70% lighter than ordinary glass-covered panels.

Considerable space savings. With a thickness of only 5.6mm, an eArc is 95% thinner than glass-covered panels.

Easy mounting. No drilling, cutting or mounting hardware is required, leaving your vehicle or vessel completely unharmed.

The eArc’s lack of a casing doesn’t make it any less durable, though. eArc modules are International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61215, 61730, and Underwriters’ Laboratories (UL) 1703 certified, and IP-68 rated against total dust intrusion and long-term water immersion. It means that even though they’re perfectly flexible, eArc 300 watt portable solar panels are still designed to resist:

Potential-induced degradation (PID);

Degradation from heat or UV exposure; and,

Corrosion from salt and ammonia exposure.

Add to these traits a markedly reduced risk of lightning strikes because there’s no metal framework, and you have an amazingly portable solar panel that RVers, caravanners, and boat owners can put to immediate use for generating power.

Portable Panels That Deliver Real Power

Source: dustinabbott.net

No one would argue that flexible 300W solar panels may be one of the best conceived mobile applications imaginable, but if they can’t deliver reliable power, then they’re worth little more than just added weight. Each eArc module is a true 290 watt solar panel (Pmax) with a 0/+5W tolerance, producing a maximum power voltage (Vmp) of 32.6, with a maximum system voltage of 600V DC. And with rigid power specs like these, they can be counted on to deliver a linear performance of:

97% during the first year;

90% over 10 years; and,

82.5% over 25 years.

In short, the eArc’s built-in resistance to thermal expansion allows them to produce consistently reliable power throughout their serviceable life cycle, and at a rate that’s equivalent to ordinary fixed panels. It’s patented breakthrough technology that uses less to achieve more.

eArc Portable Applications

Although an eArc 300W solar panel can be mounted to any stationary surface, its range of possible mobile applications is practically unlimited. Ordinarily restrictive factors like rounded corners, curved and aerodynamic surfaces, weight allowances, or environmental extremes don’t have to be concerned anymore for any of the following vehicles:

RVs or caravans. Flexible panels can be mounted to any style or size of recreational vehicle, even vintage aeros.

Trailers. All types of work, concession, or transport trailers that have powered equipment can use their own portable panels.

Marine. Waterproof and salt-resistant panels are ideal for deck use on all types of boats from cuddy cabins to luxury pontoons.

Structural silicone, a two-sided adhesive, or even a dual locking system are all that’s needed to attach any number of eArc modules to any kind of surface. And their scalability allows you to assemble them in solar arrays that can either be wired in parallel with a PWM charge controller for an easy weekending solution, or in series with an MPPT charge controller for a full-powered rooftop energy source.

eArc modules give you the ability to charge your battery bank, regardless of whether you’re stationary, or you’re driving or sailing. You’ll never have to worry again about getting to a destination with just enough time to recharge your system; and with their super-clean aesthetic and complete absence of light pollution that’s common with ordinary glass panels, your fellow caravanners or boating guests will be completely unaware that you’ve been charging your system the entire time.

The Final Word

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter if you just like going camping intermittently or you’re a full-time RVers or marine liveaboarder, you need a reliable source of electricity whenever you’re off the grid. You may not want the weight or headache of enclosed glass solar panels, though; and if you’ve got healthy power demands though, a folding panel simply isn’t going to provide the battery charging power you need.

When you are ready to buy 300 watt solar panel modules that are lightweight, flexible, and can meet all of your existing and future power needs, Sunman Energy has already developed the product that you want. Before you invest in a solar solution that doesn’t give you the best options, take the time to speak with a Sunman retailer and find out just how much of a difference eArc modules can make for you.

Australia has over 800000 registered caravans and campervans as of 2022. Sales have been soaring for both categories and don’t seem to let down any time soon. In fact, the global pandemic spurred buyer interest with international borders closed and the rise in local tourism. 40 thousand combined units were sold last year alone, but the majority on Aussie streets and campsites are generally older, with an average age of 17 years. Owners of these will have leftover cash for adding some goodies that will definitely add a little more comfort, convenience and safety, at least to the levels of what’s currently sold.

Buying a campervan or caravan is just the prelude to unforgettable memories, but decking your rig out with a few basics will make travelling and camping all the more pleasurable. You’ll want ample light and air at all times, some essential luxuries powered from an electric outlet, and a few comfortable additions outside to better indulge in spectacular Aussie sunsets. Safety additions also should be high on your agenda, as you wouldn’t want any nasty surprises while you’re out holidaying.

Here are some of the goodies that will douse your camper or caravan with a some needed fresh air, added coziness and peace of mind:

Roof Vents

Vents fitted atop the roofs of motorhomes, campervans or caravans are simple additions worth their weight in gold. They let you ventilate the vehicle to get rid of nasty smells and built-up humidity and cool things down. A camper roof vent also lets in a lot of light, for times when the weather isn’t suitable for outside fun. Vents can be simple pop-up events with some elbow grease thrown in the mix, or electrically or solar-powered vents with built-in fans with variable speeds. Unlike air-conditioners, electrically powered fans won’t drain batteries and you can use them far from a mains supply. Maybe not the last word in luxury, but some electrical vents have included remotes to change speeds while lingering in bed.

source: vanlifetheory.com

The benefits vents bring in have all to do with fresh air. Fans can draw hot air out, good for hot and humid days and relaxing living conditions inside. Vents also play a part in maintaining healthy temperatures throughout the day. They prevent the build-up of mould in the vehicle. so no mustiness or damaged walls, and they get rid of smells from the kitchen, toilets or bedroom quickly and efficiently.

If you’re considering putting a vent in, pay heed to the sizes as this will be what you need to cut out of the roof. Standard sizes are 400 by 400mm, but you’ll also find smaller variants, and rectangular vents that can accommodate any area you seem fit. Solar vents may take up more space, so also take this into account.

As for materials, most are built of reinforced plastics, with rubber seals that won’t let water in. Steel or aluminium hinges feature in pop-out vents and most can be positioned at different angles. Mozzie nets and screens are standard on almost all roof vents, so you can enjoy clean air without the nuisance of insects.

Lastly, consider how you’ll be installing one. Instructions and manuals are mandatory, but for a cleaner and sealed fit you may need to help of a pro. Prices relate to overall sizes, the type of vent, included features, materials and build.

Annexes, matting and accessories

Besides spending time inside, you’ll want to make the best of the great outdoors. Annexes extend the available space, but also add shade and air. This essentially functions as an additional room (or rooms depending on size and designs) and is good for meals, family fun, or some time to unwind. Matting can be used with the annex, or as is more often the case, on its own to increase foot space. There’s a range of eco-friendly materials that are also non-slip and feel comfortable underfoot. Designs vary too and are inviting conversation starters with neighbouring campers.

Screens, nets and zappers

To keep mozzies, flies, spiders and other crawlies out and fresh air in, line doors and windows with inexpensive screens and nets. More durable variants are made of double-layered panels and can handle stronger gusts. You may want a zapper or two if you plan longer nights outside under the stars.

source: traveldailynews.com

Electrics

To power basic items like lights, the fan in the camper roof vent or more demanding appliances like electric ovens and fridges you’ll need a stable electrical supply. Larger motor homes will have both 240V AC and 12V DC installations able to power most larger or power-hungry appliances like microwaves and air conditioners. Look for electrical inlet sockets to hook up to the mains supply in campsites, and have a solar-powered system, complete with panels, deep-cycle batteries, monitors and cabling to get power to smaller necessities. Safety equipment like surge protectors and circuit breakers will keep you out of harm’s way in the event of electrical faults.

Safety Additions

When reaching the campsite, it’s recommended to place chocks under the wheels of the caravan or camper to prevent sudden movement and keep the vehicle stabilised, especially on uneven or loose surfaces. These are durable, can handle the weight and level the vehicle. For safer maneuvers when towing, install a pair of larger towing mirrors that reduce blind spots in corners, and keep you and the caravan free from harm and damage. The same applies to electric brake controllers that increase safety and prevent the caravan from detaching from the hitch in abrupt and aggressive braking. And last but not least, a GPS tracker will always keep you informed of the caravan’s whereabouts and track irregular movement

Camping season is right around the corner, and maybe this will be your first camping trip, or maybe you’ve already been on a few camping trips. Either way, getting ready to go camping can be frustrating as there are many things to consider packing. Yet, making the most of your time away from the city involves more than just opening up a tent and cooking over an open fire. Even if you have the best tents and sleeping bags under the sun, camping can still be dull without lights brightening up the night. Here are ideas for choosing additional camping lights to make your experience more enjoyable.

LED Lanterns

source: freshoffthegrid.com

One gadget that can significantly improve your experience out in nature is portable, high-quality LED camping lanterns. Unlike in the past, when people relied on candles and oil lamps to provide light on their camping trips, things have changed today. These days, there are many different types of these lighting units available. They come in mini and medium sizes, have different colours (white, blue, green and red), are made of plastic or aluminium and have different light output ratings.

Here are some of the benefits of using LED camping lanterns.

Long-lasting: LED lanterns can provide an average of 100,000 hours or more of continuous light. This means they can last a lifetime if they’re well taken care of.

Energy-efficient: These lights consume very little energy, thus making them ideal for camping trips where power is not readily available.

Lightweight: Most LED camping lanterns are made from lightweight materials, making them easy to carry around during hikes and other activities such as fishing and hunting.

Low maintenance: Unlike traditional incandescent bulbs, which require frequent replacements, these bulbs don’t need any replacements for a long time hence saving you money in the long run.

LED Flashlights

Most campers who use a flashlight will choose to bring along an incandescent bulb-based light. After all, they are the tried and true standard of flashlights. However, the world has been moving in the direction of LED lighting.

A good quality LED flashlight will be much more durable than an incandescent bulb-based light. This is because there are no filaments that can break or burn out from too much heat or by dropping the light. This makes these lights better for camping because they can withstand rough terrain and conditions and be dropped.

LED flashlights to provide a brighter, clearer light than a filament-based bulb. This is because fewer parts can get in the way of the light beam and distort it. The newer versions of these lights also use quantum tunnelling technology to provide even more effective illumination at longer distances with less power needed to run them.

Some modern LEDs take advantage of quantum tunnelling technology to produce more light while using less battery power. These lights have longer lives and are great for camping since you do not have to worry about batteries dying on you when you need them most.

Solar Lights

source: gearjunkie.com

Camping, especially in the forests, is an adventurous experience. But if you want to make it truly memorable, you should consider smart gadgets like solar lights. You can find all kinds of options on the market today, including solar-powered flashlights, lamps and even lanterns. While some people may argue that a flashlight is sufficient for camping trips, using a solar-powered lamp is a good idea. It will not only add to your camping experience but also ensure that you can have fun without getting worried about the environment or your electricity bills.

Solar lights have many benefits. Not only are they eco-friendly, but they also help you save money by reducing your electricity bill and reducing your carbon footprint on nature. These factors make solar-powered lamps a better option than traditional lighting solutions for camping trips and other excursions to the outdoors.

Wearable Lights

Wearable lights such as headlamps and hand lamps are great options for hands-free illumination. Wearable tablets are easier to carry than flashlights or lanterns because they let you use both hands while holding a light source. Some wearable lights have a clip that allows them to attach to tents, clothing or equipment. They also come with LED bulbs that are durable and long-lasting.

Wearable lights have multiple settings so that you can adjust the brightness based on your needs. The higher settings will provide more light for tasks but only drain the battery faster; reserve these settings for emergencies or when you need them. Lower levels are better for reading or walking around camp.

source: tentcampingtrips.com

To Sum Up

Here, the takeaway is simple: camping lights can make all the difference in your comfort as you enjoy nature. You can do many things in advance to make your camping trip a little more comfortable. Be aware of what’s out there, what features are available and how much they’ll cost, and you’ll surely find something that fits your needs and budget best.

Being a popular sports activity, rock climbing has really gained the attention of many in Australia. The breathtaking mountains, the jagged cliffs and the challenging slabs are things that enthusiasts of the sport want to experience, along with many other benefits.

The truth is that Australia is a beautiful country with some exceptional climbing locations almost in every state, so it isn’t strange that a lot of climbers want to climb even the highest peak so they could feel and immerse in the beauty. If you, like many others, love the adrenaline and want to experience climbing even at shorter routes, it’s strongly recommended to stock on the essentials.

While all of them are fundamental in order for everything to go as smoothly as it’s supposed to, it’s the high-quality climbing quickdraw that’s crucial for attaching all ropes or belay devices to have better control during climbing. Without them, you even won’t be able to climb.

What Are Quickdraws?

source: 99boulders.com

They are pieces of gear designed to attach the climbing rope to the wall. They are made of two carabiners attached to one another by a semi-rigid sewn webbing also known as dogbone. Given the fact that there are two carabiners, one of them is used for attaching to the protection on the wall, while the other is securely fixed to the dogbone with the help of a rubberised keeper.

The main difference between them is that the first carabiner is loosely attached to the dogbone so it could move freely and be attached to some other forms of protection like pitons, cams, stoppers, etc. The fixed carabiner, on the other hand, is designed for clipping the rope while leading and it has to be fixed for greater control.

How Do I Choose the Right Type?

Consider the Carabiners Gates

Even though the same at first, there are three main types of gates on quickdraw carabiners: straight, bent and wire. Given the fact that quickdraws have two carabiners on them, having a combination is the best option you could choose.

source: gripped.com

Straight–Gate Carabiner

As the name implies, the gate of these carabiners is straight, from the very beginning to its very end. The biggest benefit is that these gates on the quickdraw carabiner are easy to operate tools. As such they’re among the most common choices for one of the carabiners on a quickdraw.

source: blog.weighmyrack.com

Bent–Gate Carabiner

As the name implies, the gates of these quickdraws carabiners are concaved which makes clipping a rope easy and fast. That being said, they can be mainly designed for the rope-end of quickdraws.

source: 99boulders.com

Wiregate Carabiner

As the name implies, these carabiner gates are made of stainless steel wire that has the ability to create its own spring mechanism. Its purpose is to reduce the overall weight, and another great thing is that these gates are less likely to freeze up in cold temperatures, which isn’t the case with alternatives like solid gates.

source: m.made-in-china.com

Consider the Sling’s Length

You should certainly consider the sling’s (dogbone) length because longer slings have proven to be more effective at reducing rope drag. However, it’s said that they’re also heavier and bulkier which is considered kind of a major drawback for some climbers.

Short Size Slings – These slings have a length of around 10 – 12cm and they can work perfectly when the route is straight.

Medium Size Slings – These slings are around 17 – 18cm long and are great for reducing rope drag when the rope isn’t travelling in a straight path or when the route is longer.

Usually, climbers love to combine both of these slings since they offer them a choice to start whatever route they want.

source: wireropefactory.com

How Many Quickdraws Do I Need?

This can mainly depend on how long you plan to climb, as well as when and where. For instance, for most of the sports routes, you’ll need 12 quickdraws. For longer routes of 30m, however, you’ll need around 18, whereas for the extremely long routes, it’s recommended to get more than 24 quickdraws.

source: roadaffair.com

What About the Size and Weight?

Carabiners can come in a range of sizes, and even though the smaller ones are considered the lightest, they’re the toughest to work with. For this reason, climbers prefer the use of medium and larger carabiners. Even though larger carabiners weigh more than smaller ones, still climbers prefer them because they give them easier access which is crucial during the route.

source: theadventurerr.com

Is the Colour of Carabiners Important to Consider Too?

To improve efficiency, it’s recommended for carabiners to be in different colours. Quickdraws of different lengths should also be in different colours because this allows climbers to easily identify them. For instance, duller colours like black and silver should be mainly used for bolt end carabiners, while brighter colours like blue, red, green, and even gold should be used for rope end carabiners.

Tactical gear has gained massive popularity in recent years. That’s because it’s extremely sturdy and capable, and it can be used in a variety of situations. If you like going on survival expeditions, rough camping trips, or even more dangerous hikes, then you should definitely consider using tactical gear. While the tactical knife is often considered the most popular piece of survival gear there are a lot of other pieces of gear that you should be aware of that are just as important as the knife.

Belts

Tactical outfits very rarely come together without some kind of unifying factor, which almost always is a good belt. It’s the piece of equipment that binds everything together but is also extremely practical in its own right. Tactical belts are very useful because they hold pretty much all of the equipment that you’re going to need in a pinch, so that way you’ll be able to access important items without taking off your backpack and scouring through it. Military belts are amazing for this because you can easily attach things like hunting knives, canteens, flashlights, compasses, and pretty much anything you can think of. Military belts can also handle a much bigger load than your typical belt, which is why you always need a good tactical belt on you when you’re forming a tactical outfit.

Vest

When you’re creating a tactical out, you’ll always need a vest. It’s one of the most important items, even though a lot of people seem to misunderstand the types and usage of such vests. They’re typically split into two categories, which are utility vests and body armour vests. Utility vests are most common when it comes to tactical outfits because they do all of the basic things you expect from a piece of tactical equipment. They’re sturdy, warm, and generally have a lot of pockets to hold all of your stuff. Body armour vests, on the other hand, are used almost exclusively for protection. They guard you against unexpected assault from animals and even offer extra protection against some natural hazards. Also, some rarer models offer protection against bladed weapons, though they aren’t exactly very common.

Boots

Footwear should be of high priority to everyone, no matter the situation. You should never skimp out on good footwear, even in urban situations, but that goes double for situations where you need to rely on tactical gear. They’re meant to be extremely durable against the elements, as well as extra comfortable, and if you’re looking for waterproof boots, you’ll never go wrong with tactical ones. They can even protect you against unexpected hazards because they significantly reduce the risk of muscle straining and injury due to their focus on traversing rough terrain.

Pants

Tactical pants are extremely useful at all times. Since you’ll be moving almost all of the time, you’ll want something that can handle the physical stress of movement without tearing. You can’t really expect that from any other type of pants. They also tend to have a lot of extra pockets, as well as protection against the elements. Most tactical pants tend to be similar because they were invented around 30 years ago to allow all special agents of government agencies to be able to move around with ease, while still offering a tactical advantage.

Watches

It used to be that watches weren’t really considered part of a tactical outfit. They had good features and were waterproof, but that’s pretty much where their usefulness ended. Nowadays, smartwatches perfectly complement pretty much all tactical outfits due to their sheer usefulness. They can provide you with GPS, track your movement and personal statistics, and even have emergency uses. These types of features and data can prove invaluable in the right hands, especially if you find yourself in rougher situations and unhospitable terrain. Merely tracking your heart rate so that it would warn you when you’re exerting yourself is extremely useful, let alone all these other features.

Holster

Most people tend to forget about holsters when you’re getting tactical equipment. They go hand in hand with army belts and can be customised to suit your body type, movement, and even style with ease. Holsters can hold a lot of different things that aren’t weapons, too. You can use it for a knife, absolutely, but you can also use it for holding a flashlight, maybe a compass, or even possibly a hatchet for gathering kindling. Most holsters are worn around the waist, but some can be worn beneath the arms for a subtler appearance.

Flashlight

A good flashlight easily makes all the difference in the world. It can quite literally be the difference between life and death because illumination at night should be something you take very seriously. It not only illuminates the way forward, but it can also guard you against predators, and even human assailants because no creature wants to be blinded by intense light. The tactical flashlight bodies are also physically enhanced so that you could use them as blunt striking objects in defence.

Knife

Tactical knives are typically the most popular tactical items on pretty much all lists. That’s because they’re incredibly useful in and out of tactical situations, and they also come in many different forms, shapes, and sizes. From hunting knives to foldable ones and specific tactical ones, there is no shortage of knives to choose from. They can be used for a variety of activities, including defence, so you should always have a handy tactical knife when you’re forming your tactical outfit.

Going on a hiking or camping adventure means that you have to bring along certain things that will help you have a more pleasant and easier experience. You will have to sleep somewhere, light a fire, prepare and eat food and be ready in case you get cut or injure yourself somehow. When roaming the outdoor camping stores, you will probably wonder what are the most essential things you need for your adventure. Here is some must-have gear experienced campers recommend to always take with you.

Source: sun-surfer.com/

Quality, Protecitve Shelter

First and foremost, if you’re going on a camping adventure, you’ll need a place to sleep and hide from potential rain and cold weather. This is why the first on your camping supplies list should be a tent. There are various tent sizes, types and styles, so you can get pretty much anything you need.

Whether you need a small tent for one or two people, to a large one that will welcome an entire family, make sure that it is easy for carrying on your back and also not too complex for setting up. Larger tents naturally are heavier, which is why many backpackers decide to carry their own tents (especially if they are walking for kilometres). Backpack tents can welcome one to four people while camping tents can house up to twelve people. So if you’re driving to the place where you’ll set the tent, you can go for a larger one (therefore, a heavier tent).

It’s important to get a tent that is made of waterproof materials that will keep you warm and dry inside. Some tents have features that will make the camping comfortable, especially if you camp in a larger group. This means that some larger tents have rooms, ventilation that will make hot days bearable, light source, side pockets and so on.

Source: blog.finandfield.com

Sleeping Bags

When visiting the well-stocked outdoor camping stores, make sure to get a sleeping bag. This is another camping essential that no camper can go without. Even if you don’t have a tent, a sleeping bag should be your highest priority. It will help you stay warm during the night and sleep on a more comfortable surface than the cold and rocky ground.

Sleeping bags come in various types and weights. It’s important to check the temperature rating. This depends on where you go camping. If you know that the area is cold and the climate is wet, your sleeping bag should be well insulated and made of waterproof material. Some bags are intended for a milder climate, others are specially made to help you stay warm in sub-zero temperatures.

Also, consider the weight, since you’ll be carrying the back on your back. It should not interfere with your balance when you walk, but also it should be too lightweight since in that case, it will not keep you warm and safe when you sleep. If you’re camping with a car and have enough space, you can also get an air bed for camping and make your sleeping experience that more comfortable.

Source: actionhub.com/

Eating Utensils & Hydration Gear

You will need to cut your food with something, as well as eat it (unless you prefer to eat with your hands). You don’t have to carry the entire utensil drawer with you, but having a practical utensils set designed for camping trips will help you have a pleasant meal in the wild. You can find excellent multi-utensil sets that include a fork, spoon and knife all in one convenient and lightweight product.

Water should be on top of your list of priorities as well. You have to stay hydrated with about 2 litres of water per day. Even if you’re sure there will be drinkable water where you go, make sure to get some hydration gear with you just in case. Water purifying powders and tablets are lightweight and easy to carry and can make a real change in cases when you aren’t sure if the water is safe for drinking. If you can’t get such powders, you can always carry a small pot where you can boil the water so you can be sure you’re drinking safe water.

First Aid Kit

You never know if you’ll need a bandage, pain killers, anti-allergy pills or a gauze, hydrogen or alcohol, antibiotic salve and so on. You’re going into the wild where anything can happen. This is why a camping first aid kid should find its place in your backpack. If you have insect allergies, have diabetes or other health conditions, make sure to include the necessary medications in your first aid kit.

Navigation & Illumination

No matter how many times you’ve gone camping or hiking, no matter how well you can orient in space, make sure to have a navigation tool. These tools should include a topographical map of the area you’ll be in, a magnetic compass, and an altimeter or GPS receiver. You could easily lose your way and that may turn into a dangerous adventure you wouldn’t want to have.

Illumination is also important, so don’t forget to carry a flashlight, or a headlamp so your hands can be free to do things such as cutting wood, setting the tent or cooking a meal. LED type light bulbs are excellent since they last for a longer time and provide a stronger light beam, making your camping brighter.

Fire Starter Gear

You will probably need to start a fire, so you will have to have fire starter gear. Matches, a butane lighter or a flint will help you light a fire even if you are a beginner or haven’t tried to start a fire before. Make sure to keep the matches in a waterproof container so it stays dry and you can easily use it when necessary.
